Foundations of the Kindergarten Program

We are so excited to welcome your child into our Kindergarten classroom in 2023!

The Kindergarten Program at Wellington Catholic District School Board is a two-year experience that builds community and provides rich and inclusive learning for all children. The purpose of the program is to establish a strong foundation for learning in the early years, and to do so in a safe, caring and playbased learning environment. It is designed to help children build on their prior knowledge and experiences, form concepts, acquire foundational skills, and form positive attitudes towards learning. In partnership with the home, the school plays a vital role in developing children's social competence and well-being, providing the foundational tools and knowledge needed for them to play a constructive and contributing role as citizens in the future. In addition, it lays the foundation for children's success throughout their school years.

In the Kindergarten Program, the four frames are used to structure thinking about learning and assessment. These frames, grow out of the four foundations for learning and development: Belonging, Engagement, Expression and Wellbeing.

The Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations guide the journey for all learners in the Catholic schools across the province. What children learn in connection with all four frames lays the foundation they will need to become active, contributing, responsible Catholic citizens of which Jesus Christ is the model.
